Scarecrow Bio-Acoustic Systems and the National Farmers Union Announce Harvest Survey Winner
On the 7th September 2009, Scarecrow Bio-Acoustic Systems and the National Farmers Union (NFU) teamed up to offer one lucky farmer the chance of winning Scarecrow Compact – an energy efficient integrated bio-acoustic bird dispersal system designed specifically for use in agricultural environments.
Arable farmers across England and Wales were invited to complete the NFU’s annual harvest survey and in return as a thank you, those taking part were given a chance to win one of three bird scarers, worth up to £500, just in time for winter crop planting.
The winners were chosen at random from all the people who completed this year’s survey. The first prize of a Scarecrow Compact went to Andrew Bray of Nursted Farm in Petersfield, Hampshire.
The survey supports farmers’ marketing decisions by providing the first independent estimates of English and UK production, well in advance of official figures. NFU Chief Arable Adviser Guy Gagen said: “With autumn cultivations now all but completed, farmer’s thoughts are turning to winter crop protection, and the use of bird scarers. Using the same method means birds will become used to it and the scarer won’t be as effective. We encourage members to alternate the use of different scarers which will provide their crops with the best protection and ensure minimal disruption to neighbours.
”Scarecrow Bio-Acoustic Systems and the NFU hope to work together again in the near future.
